General Recovery Guidelines
Now you can support clinical decision-making when there isn't a guideline for the diagnosis or when the clinical situation is so complex that a specific guideline doesn't fit. Tools in the General Recovery Guidelines product complement Inpatient and Surgical Care content to cover the entire spectrum of inpatient conditions and procedures, including complex cases. Use the General Recovery Guidelines for:
- Expanded decision support Efficiently manage patients with comorbidities, multiple illnesses or unclear diagnoses with detailed admission, pathways and discharge criteria.
- Long-term acute care Address patients who need more than 25 days of intensive care.
- Evidence-based complex treatments Determine treatments based on the best evidence surrounding comorbidities or complex symptoms or diagnoses.
- Problem-oriented guidelines Access detailed clinical indications for admission or procedure when the diagnosis is unclear.
- End-of-life guidance Decide whether inpatient or home-based hospice is the preferred palliative care.

Important Information About the Milliman Care Guidelines®: The Care Guidelines® can be used by qualified healthcare professionals as a tool in making medical necessity decisions, but they should not be used as the sole basis for denying treatment or payment. The Care Guidelines® must be applied to the individual patient on a case-by-case basis and always in the context of a qualified, healthcare professional's clinical judgment.
