Milliman Care Guidelines Welcomes St. Joseph Health System in California as New Licensee

SEATTLE — May 31, 2005 — Milliman Care Guidelines, LLC, a Milliman Company, announced today that St. Joseph Health System of Orange, California has chosen to license the Milliman Care Guidelines® as part of the larger implementation of a full care management system.

St. Joseph Health System will begin using Ambulatory Care, Inpatient and Surgical Care, Recovery Facility Care, Home Care and the Chronic Care Guidelines with the implementation of an overall care management system that will be used across ten sites. Closely interrelated, the Care Guidelines provide a basis for efficient organization of care across the entire spectrum of healthcare delivery.

St. Joseph Health System (SJHS) will use the Care Guidelines in order to round out its provider resources and improve efficiency, enabling them to further enhance their quality of care and increase patient satisfaction. The care management system that is being implemented will be used in ten facilities across California and Texas.

“The Care Guidelines will be valuable tools to providers across all disciplines represented at St. Joseph Health System. The information contained in the Care Guidelines will help us live up to our commitment to our patients to provide excellence in service,” said Beth Quigley, Director of Care Management with St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, CA, a member of SJHS.

“We’re very pleased to add SJHS to the hundreds of facilities utilizing the Care Guidelines to help them offer high-quality care and continue its record of excellence in the community,” said Scott Harris, Director of Marketing and Sales for Milliman Care Guidelines.

The Milliman Care Guidelines are clinical decision support tools used for treating specific patient conditions with appropriate levels of care and optimal progression toward discharge or transition. The Care Guidelines are written and reviewed by experienced physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to describe current best medical practice, recognizing that the unique circumstances of the patient should guide medical decisions. These clinical tools provide up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge, enabling more informed, consistent decisions and promoting the best possible care management, while maximizing efficiency in the use of healthcare resources.
