James M. Schibanoff named among 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives

SEATTLE — May 22, 2006 — James M. Schibanoff, M.D., Editor-in-Chief of the Milliman Care Guidelines®, has been named among the nation’s “50 Most Powerful Physician Executives” by Modern Physician and Modern Healthcare magazines.

The magazines recently asked readers who they believe are the 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives covering all segments of the healthcare industry. The top 50, including Milliman Care Guidelines’ Dr. Schibanoff, represent a cross section of physician executives who run hospital systems, serve in the U.S. Senate, federal health agencies, patient advocacy groups, health insurance companies, unions, prestigious journals and academic programs. The list, and an accompanying cover story, appeared in the April 24, 2006 issue of Modern Healthcare and the May issue of Modern Physician.

Under the leadership of Dr. James M. Schibanoff, the care of one in three Americans is now managed using the Milliman Care Guidelines and nine of the eleven largest managed care organizations in the nation are Milliman Care Guidelines clients.

Dr. Schibanoff’s responsibilities include supervision of the editorial and peer review process for the Care Guidelines, analysis of the Care Guidelines evidence base, appointment and coordination of expert clinician panels, planning new guidelines and revision to existing guidelines. He also represents Milliman Care Guidelines to consumer/patient groups, regulatory bodies and medical specialty societies and responds to clinical inquiries about the Care Guidelines from users.

Dr. Schibanoff is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine. Prior to joining the Milliman Care Guidelines in 1996, Dr. Schibanoff served as Chief Medical Officer of a San Diego healthcare system and for three years as Chief Executive Officer of two San Diego hospitals.
