Milliman Care Guidelines, in collaboration with The Leapfrog Group, is pleased to announce a special program designed to financially assist hospitals participating in the Leapfrog Hospital Rewards Program™ (LHRP).

The LHRP is focused on improving hospital quality and efficiency in five clinical areas representing 20 percent of commercial inpatient spending. Milliman’s Inpatient and Surgical Care product is an excellent tool for hospitals seeking to improve performance in both of these areas:

• Quality – The LHRP has identified quality measures in five clinical areas. The 10th Edition of Inpatient and Surgical Care incorporates and highlights those measures within the workflow of its Optimal Recovery Courses (care pathway tables). This approach assists care managers and care givers in acting upon these important quality metrics.
• Efficiency – The LHRP measures a participating hospital’s severity-adjusted average length of stay for each of the five clinical areas. The Milliman Care Guidelines^® can help hospitals improve their average length of stay by identifying delays and omissions in care that can lead to unnecessary extended stay. The Care Guidelines are also a care management tool that can help hospitals to anticipate patient progress and proactively coordinate discharge planning.

The LHRP is Leapfrog’s new voluntary public reporting initiative and includes the first nationally standardized hospital recognition and reward program that can be licensed and implemented by private healthcare purchasers – employers, healthcare coalitions, and health plans.
