Associate Managing Editor,
Ambulatory Care

POSITION SUMMARY: Contribute to revising Ambulatory Care Guidelines in concert with established milestones and deadlines; this includes evidence search, writing, and editing as appropriate. Assist with editing guidelines authored by other writers, as well as managing overall work flow among all parties involved in content production.

Assist Managing Editor with completion of end-of-cycle or special projects, including quality control, training, and education. Participate in Managing Editor Group meetings and provide support for meeting the division's operational and strategic goals.

Assist Managing Editor with clinical product planning, including enhancements for ambulatory care needs in conjunction with product management department and supervisor.

Maintain communications on behalf of Clinical Team with Sales and Marketing personnel, IT, Trainers, Milliman Peer Review Team, and non-clinical Care Guidelines employees as appropriate.

Milliman Care Guidelines Major Responsibilities

  1. GUIDELINE DEVELOPMENT
    1. Planning – participate in content planning
    2. Evidence search – expert at use of tools and systems for identification of new clinical literature and other evidence and its retrieval in concert with non-clinical Care Guidelines employees
    3. Writing – expert at use of tools and systems for guideline writing, contributor to product updating and upgrading
    4. Editing – editing responsibilities for specific assignments
    5. Quality control – responsibility for content of specific assignments
  2. BUSINESS AND MARKETING
    1. Advisory role providing input to other Editors, Senior Editor and Editor-in-Chief on all external issues
    2. Participates at annual Client Forum as assigned
    3. Participates in sales meetings as appropriate
    4. Participates in market research as appropriate
  3. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
    1. Participate and facilitate team approach to future product planning
    2. Clinical resource for information regarding new content, for non-clinical Care Guidelines employees as appropriate
    3. Presents at Care Guidelines seminars, Client Forum, and Consultant Certification Programs as assigned
  4. STAFF AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Reports to assigned Managing Editor or Editor in Chief
    2. Makes recommendations on staffing needs as appropriate
    3. Participates in decisions regarding new content and product development
  5. STRATEGIC RELATIONSHPS
    1. Participates in building strategic relationship with identified external entities as appropriate

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of seven years of clinical experience with excellent clinical judgment
  • Familiarity with health services research
  • Familiarity with evidence-based medicine techniques
  • Strong writing and editing skills

Education or Training: Licensed physician. Significant experience in identifying outpatient provider needs and familiarity with the payer market are preferred. Advanced degree (MPH, MBA, or similar) with other administrative, business, leadership, or medical teaching experience a plus.
